Builders

Let JLC handle the technology so you can concentrate on your business.

What can a technology consultant

Do for Me?

A technology consultant is an independent advisor that provides systems design and advice on all low voltage, automation, and general technology elements of a project.  Because the consultant is independent, he/she is not beholden to any particular group of manufacturers or suppliers.

As your technology consultant, JLC can support you by:

  • Eliminating the need for the builder to hand-hold the client through the low-voltage procurement process;
  • Ongoing monitoring of the project to ensure that the systems are installed professionally and on time. JLC can help identify system and installation requirements that may have an impact on the construction early on and help prevent them from having negative impacts on the schedule;
  • Identifying your client’s needs through a thoughtful and comprehensive discovery process;
  • Working closely with the design team to integrate the technology into the design as seamlessly as possible;
  • Producing drawings and specification that can be used by multiple integrators in a competitive bid delivery model or to be used by the preferred integrator to ensure they are providing the best system for the clients’ needs; and
  • Most importantly, providing honest and independent advice as a trusted advisor on your team.
What a

Technology Consultant Is Not

JLC is not an integrator or a contractor.  We do not sell, install, program, or service the components of the system.  We are not dealers or representatives for any particular group of manufacturers.

This independence from the manufacturers is crucial. It allows JLC to provide designs that meet your specific needs using products that are best suited for the task without consideration for sales targets dictated by manufacturers.

Why work with JLC?

Cost Savings

JLC can save you and your client money in a variety of ways.

•Engaging with JLC early allows the home technology to be a known element to the design team. Knowing early what technology elements will need integrating helps you eliminate the need for costly architectural redesigns and change orders later in the design/construction process.

•JLC’s design process includes estimates along with each design deliverable. This allows the low voltage items to be included in the project budget from early in the process avoiding the unexpected “budget busting” line items late in the game resulting in costly and time consuming VE exercises.

•JLC’s thorough and thoughtful discovery process will help your client determine exactly what they need to meet their goals—nothing more, nothing less. This protects them from being oversold on services or equipment that they don’t need and protects them from being undersold and needing to add systems and equipment later at increased cost and schedule delays.

•Having JLC generate the design specification, send it to multiple integrators, and review the proposals ensures your clients are receiving “apple to apples” bids on the home technology. Having multiple integrators quote from a published specification almost always results in more competitive pricing for the owner.

Expertise

JLC understands all that is involved in designing and managing the complex and numerous elements involved in the installation of a home or commercial automation system. Our senior consultant Jason has been designing systems for the high-end residential and commercial industry for nearly 20 years. He has designed and managed installations for some of the most distinctive luxury residences and the most respected institutions and corporations in the country. He has worked in the industry as both an integrator/contractor and as a consultant. JLC knows the industry from both the design and integrator sides of the fence and can help you and your clients navigate the process with an insider’s knowledge of the industry.

Time-Savings

Having JLC on your design team allows you to offload the time-intensive, highly technical responsibility of assisting your client in selecting a low-voltage integrator. When you bring JLC onto the project we take responsibility for helping the client navigate this process; we become the client’s trusted advisor regarding technology decisions. You can focus your energy and time on your core competencies and on building the best home for your clients.

Engaging JCL early also ensures that the technology being proposed can be fully integrated into the design saving time and money. Our design process mirrors that of the Architect and allows us to bring the clients low-voltage design from concept to completion right along with the architectural workflow. We take our clients step by step through preliminary and schematic design, design development, construction documents, and through to construction administration and commissioning/closeout.

Trust

JLC is your clients’ ally in this process. Everything we do is in the service of advocating for your client. We do not make money by increasing the size of the sale to the integrator or by specifying certain products. We are here to help your client make smart, informed, value-based decisions. We work hand-in-hand with you from early in the project to ensure that the systems integrate seamlessly into the design and do not cause costly delays in the construction schedule. JLC will become a trusted and valuable member of your design team.

Working with JLC ensures your clients are getting an expertly designed system, tailored to their needs, using the best products in the market, at the same or reduced cost, with less stress endured, and less time wasted.
